About the event
Our goal is to raise $20,000, enough to build homes for and relocate 4 refugee families from a U.N. refugee camp to a safe village in Ethiopia, where the families will receive medical care, education, and the tools to start on paths to self-sufficiency.
Thon Met is a grassroots organization whose mission is to improve the lives of South Sudanese refugees. Almost 2.5 million South Sudanese have been displaced by the region’s ongoing conflict, of which 70% are children. Unable to return to their home villages, they endure extremely harsh conditions in refugee camps: violence is pervasive; clean water scarce; and health care nearly non-existent. To bring safety and hope back into refugees’ lives, Thon Met helps families relocate from camps to a safe village in Ethiopia. Here, Thon Met provides families homes; clean water; post-conflict support; and education.

It takes 2 hours for our villagers to reach the nearest fresh water on food. A bicycle would cut this time by more than half. The bike would also be used for getting to and from other nearby towns, where villagers would be able to more quickly barter goods and reach medical care.
